Last week i spent an insane amount of time at the sewing machine, whipping up a bunch of prototype dresses for the Botanical Banquet exhibition. I pricked my thumbs a bunch of times and ripped apart some seams in utter frustration, but in the end i got everything done.

Here are just a quick glimpse of the textiles i designed and used to create the said dresses.
Perhaps i should go back to study next year and take a dressmaking course. Start a little fashion label?
I'm a bit obsessed with this notion at the moment. Imagine some fancy girls parading around in silk dresses adorned with pencilled swans and grumpy girl faces. It's going to take alot of hard work but the plan is to move in that direction as the year goes on. Any support from girls who like to sew would be utterly invaluable.   1. OH MY GOODNESS! You not only designed these AMAZING textiles (They are all brilliant) but also made dresses with them!? Dream babe. I am envious of your skills...! Would love to see photos of the dresses when you have some. Great work!!

  2. Oh wow, from these photos they look like amazing quality pieces, as well as being gorgeous textiles. I have no doubt that the idea in my head of wearing one of your pieces around no doubt eclipses in excitement your idea of labouring over lots of dresses for your readers and admirers. I am actually struggling to choose which of them is my favourite, and I feel like any one of these prints could very nicely slot into my wardrobe!

    My very good, very talented friend Morgan makes (made?) clothes under the name Crowns Clothing, she is self taught and pretty amazing so if you'd like I could pass her email address onto you.

      It's a funny coincidence because i know Morgan already - i did a little collaboration with her a few months ago and created an illustration for crowns clothing.

  5. Oh Caitlin, LOVE these snippets! I was a mean sewer back in the day when I took 7 years of intense sewing classes. Ma fashion illustration teacher practically cried when I announced I was going to Art School instead of pursuing fashion design.
    These look lovely. If you want to do the sewing yourself, there are some excellent short courses at TAFE to teach you pattern making. I am sad I won't be back fr ages, otherwise I'd help you as much as I can.

    Pps. book hasn't arrived yet in the post, according to mum. I wish I'd had it posted straight to me instead!!! :-) Good luck with everything amazing girl!!

      Oh i'd love to see some of the things you designed back when you were focused on sewing! How talented you are. That makes sense why you had such a good time looking at the Alannah Hill fabrics in Melbourne when we were all down there for the girls exhibition!

      I think i will definitely look into studying sewing at tafe. The thought of going to study an actual fashion design course freaks me out a bit. Too much to handle. i guess i've got a good few months to investigate it properly though and come to a decision.

      I'm really sorry the book hasn't arrived yet. It was being shipped directly from hp magcloud, so i'll look into it now.
      I remember when i ordered my draft copy of the lookbook back last year it did take a really long time to arrive.
      Hopefully it's just delayed and not lost. Will keep you in the loop once i find out what the deal is. :)

  11. I already love your illustrations, it's be amazing to wear dresses with them on! I love all of the sneak peeks - but I think my favourite would have to be the pink one with the biscuits on it!
