Best Coast

Another fake gig poster. Perhaps I'll turn this into a series!
I'm seeing Best Coast in just over a week so thought this would be fitting. Hooray for songs about cats and boys.

p.s. If you're in a band or anything like that and are in need of poster art, please send an email to: caitlin.shhh@hotmail.com. I'm available to do commissioned work.

Anna Calvi

Some fake gig posters i made because i've been listening to Anna Calvi obsessively lately.
This lady is just my cup of tea! She's got a Masculine Vs. Feminine thing going on, she likes to cover Elvis, and her fashions remind of a chic lady matador. Plus her music is velvety and dark and completely delectable.  Fingers crossed I'll be able to create some real gig posters for her one day! One can dream.

The Girliest Girl

Lately I've been experimenting with photoshop - teaching myself to colour my illustrations digitally using hand drawn fonts and textures from my old paintings. It brings about a different kind of aesthetic, and i'm having fun exploring these unexplored avenues and pushing my usual style.

Emerald + Local markets!

Emerald

This is a painting made especially for Jo Dyer, a lovely artist who i finally got to meet at a group show in Melbourne last year. We swapped paintings after being enamoured with each others work and this is the piece that Jo made for me. Her work is so delicate and romantic and i've got the painting especially saved in my collection of art that needs to be framed and hung up in the apartment which i will someday have.
(p.s. Jo also has an etsy shop you should check out!)

I'm really happy to announce that we will be sharing a stall at the Avoca beachside markets this sunday!
I'm very excited and hope that those of you who live on the central coast will come by and say hello.
(I'd love to meet you!)

brunette bubblecut barbie goes to the beach

brunette bubblecut barbie goes to the beach

One of my favourite books as a kid was The Collectible Barbie Doll by Janine fennick. Meant for adult collectors of barbie, it explained the values, patent pending labels and overseas versions of a majority of the barbie dolls ever produced. But me, i didn't mind so much about that because the book also included hundreds of pictures depicting barbie through the ages and all the personas she took on (teacher, astronaut, olympian, chanteuse, ballerina, firefighter...), as well as all her friends, family, accessories and clothes. I used to stare at the book for hours and hours and hours (the Bob Mackie Queen of Hearts barbie was my favourite!) and i guess that petite little lady never left my heart. Here is a brunette version of miss barbie in a bikini version of her classic swimsuit, which i whipped up last sunday whilst waiting for another painting to dry.

St. Valentine

commissioned valentines portrait

A commissioned Valentines portrait for Elsa Olsson.
It pleases me so much to think that Elsa will be giving her sweetheart this drawing as a present.
Swoon! Such a sweet way to commemorate ones love.

& A naughty little piece for the Valentines issue of Domestic Etch zine.
Run by Elizabeth Goodspeed, Domestic Etch showcases a bunch of really grand and heartfelt art.
You can preview or buy the issue here.

Happy valentines to you all. Be happy if you're lucky enough to have someone to love with all of your heart. (p.s. i love you.)

Brett Manning

Brett Manning

A painting of Brett Manning, a lovely, lovely illustrator from Chicago.
Brett and i admire each others work greatly and so decided to swap portraits in the mail. This is my interpretation of her wide eyed charm, her luscious brown locks and infinitely magical aura.
I think she is a very talented young lady with such a defined style and i appreciate the naturalistic quality of her work. It's wild and gritty but at the same time soft and sensual.
You can find more of her works here: brettisagirl.com
