Something else i've been working at on and off over the past few months.
Dedicated to all those who are unlucky in love. Dedicated to those late bloomers. Dedicated to those who are terrified of intimacy. Dedicated to those who dislike life because it isn't the same as in those old black and white films.

Camilla

My dear friend Sam Giddey recently made a film called Camilla, and i was asked to paint a portrait for a book cover to be used as a prop in the film. The lovely lady is Lani Crooks, another friend, who played the character of Camilla.

this week i love : halcyon digest by deerhunter, californication, jane fonda, herbal tea, planning an art exhibition with friends, collecting treasures from the side of the road during council pick-up season, visiting home, pasta, imagining myself as a university student again. yeah, i re-applied to study visual communications in sydney next year. I'm looking forward to having interesting peers and wise teacherly guidance and so i've got my fingers crossed that the application will be accepted. It gets a bit lonely trying to launch an illustration career without a mentor or someone to turn to, so this is something i feel i need. Then maybe one day i can publish my own arts magazine and work as a cover designer at penguin books. The future seems so far away, and actually it's a massive freakout because it also seems so close. This year has vanished in a flash and i'm really trying to make the things that come out of my hands correspond with my heart. That's my current goal.

mermaiden

I think i began this drawing about this time last year, and it was actually going to be about the lisbon sisters.
Well, my mermaid obsession kind of took over and now six months later i was able to finish it off. it's a weight off my shoulders to be finishing these half done paintings. I've only got a couple to go now.
I simply cannot just leave all of these girls to linger in my sketchbooks for life. They have to come out and say hello.
