cupcakes

When i turned 21 in July i cooked and cooked for days to prepare for my birthday luncheon. Something in the air had me dreaming of being a Nigella Lawson protege, and i must admit that while is was extremely tiring ( i retired to bed with a mad men dvd at 9pm because i could barely keep my eyes open wide enough to unwrap presents.), the results were pretty scrumptious! Here are some snapshots of the red velvet cupcakes that doubled as my birthday cake. I found the recipe at Ming Makes Cupcakes and would highly recommend it! The cake mix features alot of oil, but who can complain when these cupcakes are the most moist and delicious you will ever taste - if i do say so myself. Due to last minute stress-outs my icing was a bit of a disaster ( i wanted white frothy buttercream peaks, but that didn't work out.) but was still tasty, and my mum even spent hours meticulously hand making fondant flowers to sit atop the cakes. ( my favourite bit! some were marbled, some were white gardenias - we even had a David Lynch-ian blue rose!) Her work colleague also specialises in cake decorating and made a selection of airbrushed and glittered flowers. pretty magical! Having cakes like this made for a very happy birthday indeed.

Disband Melbourne + bits

Disband

Disband is travelling to Melbourne!
After a successful opening in sydney, Angela and Renee of Leeloo are taking the Disband exhibition to Melbourne! Featuring some very enthusiastic australian talent, the show will feature custom made pieces reflecting what it is to break up and be broken.
It'll be at No Vacancy gallery, and will run daily from Tuesday the 24th of August till Saturday the 28th - with the official opening night party being held on Thursday the 26th. Mark your Calendars, Melbournians. :)
I'll be showing the following pieces, (which are up for adoption, by the way.) and wish, wish, wish with all my heart that i could be in Melb for the opening.

Giclee Prints!

Hello all!
After a considerable sleepy lull, I'm finally happy to formally announce the opening of my new etsy shop, Caitlin Shearer, and also to release some scrumptious giclee prints!
Some of you may have been familiar with Pepperminte, the etsy shop i began after graduating from highschool. Feeling disconnected from the name and a little more mature, I've started over anew, so this new shop shall have a more prominent focus on original artworks and superb quality giclee prints on Hahnemeuhle cotton paper. These are truly dreamy museum quality prints - the matte paper is thick and sturdy with a slight texture, and these reproductions capture the detail of the original paintings perfectly.
I'll be offering a range of prints in A4 and A3 sizing, (poster size & bigger than last time!), and since it's just the beginning, i only have limited stock for the moment - so be warned, they may run out  - Because of this I am happily accepting pre-orders, so feel free to send me a note and i can reserve some prints for you in my next batch order. If an illustration you like isn't currently available, or you would like a different size, please contact me at caitlin.shhh@hotmail.com - as i am very happy to accommodate any needs.
p.s. As a special treat to my blog readers, I'll add some extra 6x8" prints to your purchase - as a little gift! Just be sure to let me know in the 'message to seller' section!

p.p.s. etsy just added a multi currency function, which makes it a million times easier for overseas buyers to shop and know exactly how much items are worth.

So, hooray, the shop is now up and running! Please take a look.

Dusty Treasures

Some Custom Illustrations i recently worked on for Rebecca Rose of Dusty Treasures vintage.
Inspired by shimmering chandeliers, 1930's boudoirs and the trinkets Rebecca has collected, i came up with a feminine mascot for her site, plus a bunch of other little fancy illos to adorn her pages.
We share very similar aesthetics, ( pastel porcelain cats, anyone?) so it was a pleasure to work with such a sweet lady!
